Default SS Pearls - are they ??

    Hi All,

These are supposed to be SS Australian Pearls but I need opinions on them. Help!! Are they. What is the general consensus? They are 12.6 x 15 or probably the biggest one is. I like the look of them as I prefer whacky shapes to perfectly rounds but ...... just not sure on them.

    Opinions please

They are too big to be akoyas. I'd be surprised if they are FW fireballs because of the luster; the luster looks SS.

I hope someone who is more experienced w SS and fw fireballs would comment ......

Here's a pic of a nucleated freshwater strand. I believe that the picture is a South Sea pearl.

Even though I don't think the color is as accurate of the FW, I am starting to waffle. but I am still tilted to think SS.

    Hi Bo-

Those definitely look like WSS Baroques to me- the luster and shapes (even the nodules protruding from some of the surfaces) are very consistent with every strand on a temp hank that I've ever seen.

What would something like this be worth. They want just shy of $500 for it. I like it but. . .

Thanks all. Yes, too big to be akoya. I suppose they have the satiny look. They are being called Grey but look more silvery to me.

Mka4972 - is that your strand of FW baroques. Look good to me. Lovely.

Thanks Ashley. Must go check out your site for SS pearls. And all the others. I need gold more than pearls at the moment but pearls pull at my heart strings and gold I just need for designs. Gold is so expensive at the moment. It is down right scary.

It is the companys strand, I did buy it however 500.00 seems to be a very reasonable price especially if they truley are South Sea.

That's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure I could break the strand up and design and still make a profit. So hard when I don't have a regular supplier of any pearls let alone the pearls I most want.

Mka4972 - love it, glad you bought it. Do they have any more and what is the site. An dare I ask what I might expect to pay for it. I am also on the look out for big baroques in the Spice colours that don't cost an arm and a leg. Can find big spice pearls but they are priced higher than SS & Tahitians half the time. Seems weird to me. But then what do I know. But making a profit from them is not likely.

I would ask about about the size of the strand. Is it measured correctly? The number of pearls and the shapes do not match the size quotation.

They do look SS to me, and regardless of size it would be a good price for SSP.

    Hi Jeremy,

I checked and the 12.6 x 15 is the centre pearl graduating down to 9 x 11 mm at the clasp. 29 pearls. They actually want about $539 if bought now rather than at auction. But I think that is probably still quite a good price. Said if it doesn't sell they would give me a better price but I am thinking they might go if I leave them.

    Thanks, Dawn

So the strand is actually 9 to 12.6 mm. That makes more sense. The length does not really contribute to the value, only the diameter perpendicular to the drill hole does. Is this how it was presented to you? Length and diameter noted? That is very strange.

    $539 now rather than auction??

    Personally, I think that's a steal at $500.00

Oh well, I'm going to be different. I believe they are Ikecho / fireballs. That is what my gut said when I first saw them. I have a few white high-end baroque fw fireball strands that I purchased from Sea Hunt (Jeremy, you know the quality that Jack has.) and they look very much like South Sea pearls. Two pearls on one of the strands even have those nodules that Ashley mentioned. Also, the price seems to good to be true for SS pearls.

Oh, and by the way, $500 is a steal for a high quality fireball strand these days.
