    Default Freshwater Keshi

While in New York for a couple of days last week we had a couple extra hours before heading to JFK for the flight home and wandered into Fifth Avenue Jewelers (at 47th), a co-op or mall with over 30 separate vendors. Many of our jewelery-fashioning members here have posted pieces that would easily surpass the great majority of things we saw…

We did find and purchase these huge freshwater earrings, as they promised a flashy, informal look for Summer. Oblong, approximately 25mm long by 15mm wide by 8mm deep. Plenty of imperfections, in an odd mix and match pairing.

Jeweler didn't specify the source but these appear from a quick glance at Strack to be American keshi cultured pearls (Latendresse).

In a way it is curious that PG forum does make more promotion for american pearls.
I was lucky enough to see a lot of those pearls when A pearl Cy went to Paris for the pearl exhibition last autumn
It's really interesting pearls, curious shapes, different luster, hard to explain...

I made a web page, tribute to american pearls when exhibited in Paris, see here

You must love the exchange rate when you come to NY - it is a great opportunity to buy in the US! Lovely earrings. Thank you for the pictures from the museum show as well. The "sick pearl" is interesting, being from iron/manganese contaminates.
