Hello ~ If you haven't opened the shells, how do you know they have pearls inside?

    Hi gere

Can you post a photo or several photos? I think this is a fascinating and something no one has seen much of.

Someone here may know how to do what you are asking, but it would help to have some good photos- preferably digital with a macro setting as we want to see details.

    Thanks
I can see the back of the shells very well, the inside is not clear at all- too bright- and the phone- is that a phone photo of a pearl?

I would love to see that shell dated- it would probably take a scholar of fossils to do it. What context did you (or another) find it in? Do you have any photos of it in the earth before it was removed?

My guess is the scallop must have lived somewhere else while the pearl was growing.

Fossilized sea shells found on tops of mountains are not that rare an occurrence.

"From the 18th century the presence of sea shells and fossils of sea creatures has been noted at and near the tops of mountains. As we now understand, they get there because tectonic activity causes geological layers that were once part of the ocean floor to rise. The mechanism is understood, and confirmation is found in the very great age of the shells/fossils."

What's unbelievable is finding "round" disproportionally big pearls in them.

Looks like a ball of plumbers putty. Maybe ancient plumbers kept their plumbers putty in a shell. Sorry I can't help it.
