Thread: Freshadama questions

    Default Freshadama questions

So I just got some lavender freshadamas and have some questions. I expected to be impressed right away but I wasn't. I haven't had a chance to look at them for long though. The luster looks good ( not exceptional though, the color is very nice but they aren't all round to the naked eye. I see quite a few eggish shapes and a few that are kind of flat on one side. Is this normal? Some of the pearls are much nicer than others. I can't help but wonder if these are AAA or partly composed of AAA.
I'm going to email PP and ask them.

I just had a good look at them in a few different rooms. I'm still puzzled as far as shape goes. But the color is really nice and has good overtones and some rainbow type orient. I like the P charm too. It's a cute touch.

I just am not feeling the WOW feeling that I was when I got my exotics last week.

You must be too good a photographer, because they look great to me. They look superb in the hand photo.

But, I know what you mean, because I am infernally picky! Let us know what you hear back about them.

    Cheers,

Yeah I am VERY picky. So it could just be me and not the pearls. I emailed PP this afternoon. I'll let you know what they say.

To be honest I can see what you mean though. They just don't look up to par (compared to pictures of other lavender strands of freshadamas Ive seen) . They are beautiful, but the point of the freshadamas is that they should be virtually perfect, right?

I think the shine is creating an optical illusion in the first and third photos... they look quite round in the second shot.

If they are slightly off round, I would want to know-- are strands of lavender pearls more scarce than the other colors, and therefore are there going to be more off rounds among them?

Did you specify an overtone at all? E.g. silvery lavendar, pink, etc? The luster is great, but seems to me you might be looking for something more intense, like what pearl_love got. Her colors look great. With the shape I did find the pearls towards the end very very slightly off-round, but then I'm very picky as well. My friends all say they look perfectly round.

I had to hunt up the photos of pearllove's lavenders for comparison. I guess this is the thread:

Those do seem a bluer and more intense color than yours, but of course in photography lighting is critical-- yours and hers could be exactly the same shade, for all I know.

Also in my white Freshadama strand there is variability between the pearls-- some have greater luster and stronger overtones than others. I think this is normal.

    Hi members,

not even the Freshadamas are perfect when it comes to their shape. The longer you look at them closely, the more you will see that there are always some pearls, that are not round to the eye.. <it could be a trick of the brain but it is logically - if you have pearls without a nucleus, the risk must be higher to get only near rounds.
The harsh truth is - only Akoyas (and perhaps South Sea and Tahitians can have the perfect shape because of the "artifical help" of a round shaped nucleus! I agree that the matching is not so very good, on the left side there are clearly 2 smaller pearls noticable but if you are a beader, that could be easily changed.

As for a special colour of pearls - if there are fewer pearls it is to be expected that they also have fewer rounds between them then otherwise would be the case.

However, your pearls have nice luster and even though I love strong colours as Pearl love´s lavender and pink pearls, yours are such a lovely and elegant pastel-metallic in a subdued way.

A last point: the Exotics were hard to come by so that too would imply that we have to be satisfied with whatever shape they come in, I think in this case it was the colour and luster that qualified them mostly for being so called Exotics.

Let us know what PP has to say on this, thanks.

The luster looks really good. The colour is sweet. I can see why you say that the shape is not perfectly round.

However, I believe it has been mentioned on the forum that different pearl vendors look out for different aspects of these gem quality FW. Pearl Paradise's Jeremy Shepard mentioned that he seeks out orient for their Freshadama collection. Pure Pearls' seek out roundness for their Elite collection. Sorry, but does anyone recall Presidential and Gem Fresh selection preference and maybe post the link to the discussion? I seem to have forgotten the rest.
