Default Misaki cultured pearls - smooth or gritty?

    Hi everyone,

I''m new to your site, but so glad I found it as I have a fledgling interest in pearls and would love to learn more.

Recently, I've just gotten a Misaki black pearl necklace. It's a beautiful necklace with 2 regular-sized half pearls and one very tiny half pearl in silver hoops (picture very small from their website, but will get my own picture very soon). They said they were cultured pearls. However, when I got it home and did the grit tooth test, it turned out to be completely smooth! So now I'm really confused. Can cultured pearls be completely smooth and still be real pearls? Are these really pearls?

Misaki also talk about their X-treme Lustre pearls. Is this a pearl treatment to preserve it and does that explain why it's smooth when it should be gritty? Please help, because I would like to have real pearls, not an imitation and right now, I don't know what to believe.

    Many thanks for your help!
    Julia
