    Question

    Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what exactly a "sunshine cloth" is? If this is the commerical name for it? and also if anyone knows where to purchase one online? I read about it on a previous thread while surfing the PF and it sounds like it would be a very handy thing to have. It was mentioned in respect to polishing scratches out of pearls, minor ones I presume.

    Thanks, Bodecia

    Default Sunshine cloth

    Hi Bodecia,

Sunshine cloth should be used very careful when it comes to polishing pearls. I think You use is mostly to polish metals (light scratches on a metal band for example).

I ordered one through Ebay - search for Sunshine cloth or
    I also have a site

    http://www.argusdesigns.com/products...ts/scloth.html.
The price given is $ 9.89 or $ 27.88 with a bulk pack of 10 pcs.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, there are Chinese who know how to nucleate. They are likely your best bet in the mantle-nucleation realm. The Japanese are nearly exclusively gonad-nulceating specialists at this point.[/QUOTE]

Jeremy, it is possible to do some kind of contact with this expertise? Either Japanese or chinese.

    Thanks jerin,

As you said it looks like it is mainly used for mentals but I saw that Zeide recommended it on a previous post. Said it did a great job of polishing a Tahitian bracelet that a friend had worn along side a watch, hence scratching it. Do you know if the sunshine cloth is similar to gold and silver cleaning cloths? Probably worth buying one and testing it on an inferior pearl as a test piece. I do have more than a few inferior ones as well as my lovelies.

Thanks again for your help, Bodecia

Probably, if the pearl got enough nacre it will be working with this type of cloth. Silver and goldcloth do have a certain chemical treatment, that I would not reccomend You to use on pearls. The Sunshine cloth has non-scratch-micro abrasives but I would test it anyway on a pearl that is of a lesser quality. I think Zeide recommended it together with bath in saltslush and thorough rinsing in destilled water before You do the polishing.

Let us know the result. I have not tested my cloth on any pearls yet.

    Hi
I got these cloths a few months back, and having some loose fw with some bad spots tried it a bit. I thought it helped somewhat. I probably spent about 1/2 hour at most. I have some 11-12mm "funky" fw pearls with some dull spots. I would be extremely careful using it on any bead-nucleated pearl. Remember, we can't trust where that advice originally came from.

Default Advice on treatment of pearls - Sunshine cloth

    Hi Pattye,

I for one do trust Zeides advice as I still think that she has a vast knowledge of pearls and their treatment and I have never been given bad advice so far from her.

    Hi All,

I have tried to use the sunshine cloth on a scratched AAA fw pearl. It can take off light scratches but it didn't work taking off deeper scratches.
