I have 38 3/4 inches of these pearls on white string. What kind are they? What are they worth? Thank you!

Those are Chinese cultured freshwater pearls. That shape is usually called 'potato' pearls. They are very inexpensive and usually sold through bead stores, rather than as finished jewelry. $7-9 a strand in a bead store. $2 a strand in the big wholesale gem shows.
Even if not worth much, they will look great worn and are a very useful kind of pearl for the office, etc.
