Thank you for posting those lovely pics Donna The bunnies look so cute and cuddly. Are they native to the US? We have wild rabbits in Australia but they were introduced from Europe and are unfortunately pests.
Your kitties are adorable, what beautiful markings on the dark one. That photo looks like it should have a caption, maybe a thought bubble - 'Where's our dinner, we're skin and bone!!' lol.

    Regards from Kerry.

I clicked reply to respond to a post and before I started typing, I glanced at the date... 2010! So glad I didn't start responding! Loved the photos... I'm a sucker for animals. Wanted to be a vet when I was in high school and got into a prevet program but didn't attend college right away so I never became one. Now my dreams are my son's... keeping my fingers crossed he makes it.

Not a pet, but I found a baby cottontail on the grass just a couple of inches away from the road when I went to my mailbox today. I nearly stepped on him! He was utterly still.

I hunted around the front yard and found a shallow excavation next to our rose bushes that we realized was the nest -- there were rabbit poops next to it.

The little fellow is old enough to explore and nibble greenery, but young enough to need to return to the nest to be fed by his mom at dusk and dawn. (When they are ready to be fully on their own, their ears are straight up.) He was rather far from the nest and vulnerable (many neighbors walk their dogs past that spot each day). So I donned gloves, picked him up and took him back to the nest.

I saw his mom later as she was leaving from feeding him. A little while later he hopped away to do more exploring.

Oh he's so cute! I believe the white dot on his forehead is called the milk dot... if you see the dot, that means he is nursing, and an indication of whether or not he can be away from his mother. We get wild rabbits where we live and we have a yard bunny. It's always a treat to see him hopping around the yard when we come home at night. The other evening I came home and heard some scuffling and thought it was a bunny but it was an armadillo! I guess we have a yard armadillo now!

I didn't see either the rabbit or his mom yesterday, but today I spotted him in the clover right next to our front steps. It's a much better hiding spot, just a few feet from the original nest, shaded, and he even has clover to nibble if he wishes.

I felt ridiculously relieved to see he was alive and well. How quickly little creatures find their way into our hearts!

We had an armadillo dig a dangerously deep hole under a palmetto next to our front door. We tried everything to get rid of her. Filled in the hole. She'd dig it back out again. Mothballs. She threw them out. Finally, I decided to mark our territory. I told Greg to go pee in the hole. He said, "What will the neighbors say?" I said, "Not directly. Pee in a cup and pour it in the hole." Greg poured his pee in the hole for a few days in a row. After a few days of Greg's pee, the armadillo gave up and left.

Bunny is cute, though. I'm a sucker for bunnies.

"What will the neighbors say?" -- priceless!!

Haha...seems the armadillo didn't appreciate the golden showers!

PD- I love seeing this bunny. Your story it reminded me of the Ivy patch in our front yard and every year the baby rabbits we'd find there, just like clock work. They are so so tiny and vulnerable, you can't help but hear them!

BW- My grandpa would do the same thing, but with skunks and to my grandmother's displeasure LOL. (Not sure it ever worked)
