Check out this article from the NY Times. A 1000 year old handwoven shirt with a design of ducks holding pearls.
“A piece like this and in this kind of condition is indescribably rare,” said Benedict Carter, the head of auction sales for the Middle East department of Sotheby’s.
The shirt is decorated with ducks wearing scarves and holding pearl necklaces in their beaks, encased in octagon motifs featuring hearts, among other shapes. These patterns reveal the shirt’s provenance: It was likely owned by a roving dignitary or courtier of the Sogdian Empire.
As you scroll down the article, it will zoom in on different parts of the shirt.

My 3 favorite things all in one item. Pearls, handwoven fabric, and antique clothing. Now, if the ducks were swans, it would be perfect.
