So quiet this morning (Sunday, 10-Sept-2017). 7 a.m. Gentle rain. Not a leaf is moving. The quiet before the storm.

Dad and Greg and I have been playing Rummikub marathons. Dad's mad for it, and it keeps us busy in between soccer games on TV. I've been weaving while Dad watches soccer. Orlando Lions won their game last night.

I'll be cooking a big breakfast and lunch today, as the storm will hit my area after lunch. We'll probably lose power sometime this afternoon I'm guessing. No sleep tonight.

Thinking of you, BW. I have a dear friend in St Pete's whose husband is an emergency responder and we're all obsessively watching storm updates.

4 p.m. Starting to get the outer bands. So far so good. It's going to be a he!! of a night, though.

So glad to see Irma has been downgraded to a Category 2. If the eye stays over land, it should not strengthen again.

..just thinking about you this morning, BW. You are a real trooper and seem well prepared! My whole family is from the south Jersey shore and survived Sandy a few years ago, but nothing compared to what Irma is doing. ..stay safe and dry!

Just heard from BWeaves via text. She's fine!!! YAY!!! Here is what she sent me and Pattye (I guess we were the few that had her number from Ruckus):
"This is Berna. Please tell PG that BWeaves is safe. No Damage, No water,. No electicity. No internet. No sleep. Crazy howling wind. Under curfew. Herd of deer took up residency in my back yard" "We are very lucky and safe."

Here is the photo BWeaves sent of the deer in her back yard. Notice how high the water is!

Thank you for the update, amti. So glad to hear that BWeaves is safe. They are saying that 5.8 million in Florida are without power, and it will take time to get everyone hooked up again. Irma is still causing problems in NE Florida and on up into Georgia. Praying that everyone remains safe.

I'm back. Thanks for posting for me Amti.

Power went out at midnight and just came back on at noon, so not bad at all. We were so, so lucky.

That's actually a spring fed pond behind my house and not a retention ditch. It has an overflow duct, so that's as high as the water will ever get. It never comes over the berm in my backyard. I also have French drains in my lawn so the water drains away before it gets to my house. The herd of deer parked themselves on the berm in my back yard and I woke up to them staring at me through the window. Lots of fawns.

I hope everyone else came through OK. I really feel for the Keys and coastal areas.

The rain blows sideways during a hurricane so it never hits the ground. Flooding comes from storm surge as the wind pushes the ocean ashore.

Anyway, I'm glad that's over. Thank you, everyone, for your positive thoughts and kind words!!! It all kept me going. It was seriously scary. I spend all night awake repeating, "Please hold together" to the house.
