Thread: Ruckus promises

    Default Ruckus promises

I promised several participants I would send photos of Shin Hanga Japanese prints. Here are six of them, assuming I can figure out how to add attachments. Cheers, Jim

Very pretty Jim. Thank you for posting these. It was very nice meeting you at the ruckus. Did you wife love the pearls you selected?

Those are really lovely. Great colors. My wood block print has been a joy to me most of my life. I recently had it reframed. I imagine it was a Mt Fuji tourist item, but it was a gift from my father who lived in Tokyo for two years, working for Primo Microphone Company.

They definitely have a different feel from ukioe and are very beautiful in a totally different way. My favorite is the last one with the Cherry Blossoms. Spring is so beautiful when they are blooming.

My husband and son just got back from climbing Mt. Fuji last month. Hubby said it was the hardest thing he's done in a very long time. I climbed it as a child so it was much easier and more enjoyable. While my son was in Japan, he bought this... a spin off of the famous ukioye, but shiba style in a tenugui/hand towel. This is the only woodblock print I have in my house framed. It is something my older brother bought me when I accompanied him shopping for an original back in the early 80s. I loved it because the black around her collar has a three dimensional quality about it, which you cannot see in the photo.

Oh, I'm so jealous. I only have coffee table books with Japanese prints in them, and not the real thing. They are all gorgeous.

There are always at least one or two vendors at the NY Armory Print Fair who specialize in Japanese prints. If you're into works on paper, it's a great show! ETA: looks like they've now moved the date and location for the show: https://www.facebook.com/ifpdaprintfair/

Thanks, Jersey Pearl! I have always had a thing for art prints, so it's probably good that the show is on the other side of the country.

The list of sellers helped me find one in Los Angeles and the images that came up in Google were incredible. My print is not very stylized, which would have appealed to my father, but I love them all. I probably can't afford one from a gallery right now, but I think a coffee table book would be great to have someday.

Gemgeek and amti, thank you for sharing your lovely prints. The towel with the surfing dogs makes me smile.
