    I have here a photo I took when I visited a pearl farm in Vietnam. You can see the nucleus 9 = 2.72 mm and 2 pearls. You can also see the thickness of the nacre and the time the pearls were in the oyster.

    Great photo Cees - I'm amazed at how quickly that Vietnamese Akoya pearl grew ! 9 months ! I wonder how large a Japanese Akoya would be after 9 months ?

    Jeremy - what size was the pearl you crushed ?

    I didn't measure it before I crushed it and it's a bit too late now I think it was in the 7 mm range.
