    Karin,

We'll make the mini-ruckus happen here in Portland; always great fun catching up. You have been an amazing Mom and advocate for Ida.

Time for another update, I feel.

We were released from the hospital about 5 weeks ago. Ida has been talking again for about 7 weeks, I think, a blessing!

More blessings: I was able to get the district to pick the one day therapy school that I felt would work for her. It is a wonderful place! There are 14 young people but no classes and no class rooms. Most have their own desk but Ida has a whole big room that is just hers. It has glass walls so she can peek out from her comfy chair tucked away in a corner.

We arrive at 10 am, after half an hour's drive in my car. The first half hour she gets to curl up in the chair with her iPad, her phone and an apple after one of her two contacts have met us at the door. After that half hour, she has 45 minutes of painting or playing learning games. And I get to go to the café next door, run by this school too, and have a latte on them. Most days we drive back home after 1.5 hr but she has begun staying until noon three days now, wrapping up with another break and 20 minutes in the common room at the big arts and crafts table.

In time, her days will be from 9 to 4 on most days but there is all the time in the world. She won't ever be moved from here until she has finished her basic schooling. And with pressure being off, she is progressing very well. In terms of knowledge too. I could never get her to read but she has found a fan fiction site and reads every day now, because she doesn't have to She also has US friends to chat with and her English level is way beyond her age.

The trip to the US happened but Ida was so much more limited than she had hoped. We are doing a raincheck over Christmas and will be going to Los Angeles. She still can't walk unsupported and still gets very easily overwhelmed but we are working on that with Christmas in mind. It is just more fun to practice changing clothes when the goal is the changing room in Forever21.
