Looks great!
I agree with Caitlin and Karin, they look like freshwater.
Thanks so much!!!!
Love these. I have a strand of big ringed pearls in white. I envy you for the pinkish hue.
Th pearls look off-round to me.
Just curious. How do you inoculate akoya oysters? I assume you use donor tissue along with the nucleus? Does the donor come from exactly the same species? Do you pre-treat our nuclei? Thanks.
Finally, a big, but somewhat dimpled, golden South Sea pearl that I made into a pendant some time ago when 22k gold was a bit cheaper. Paired with orange sapphire.
Then some faceted Chinese freshwater. By now it should be clear that I like baroques. As crazy as they are, they actually do look good around a neck.
Chinese Kasumi-like pearls of the first generation. They have some nice colors that I cannot capture well and some of the pearls are very metallic.
Chinese bead-nucleated pearls with 18k gold beads and 22k clasp. They have nice orient, which is hard to see in my pictures.
Chinese Kasumi pearls with champagne zircon and a 14k clasp.
These are Chinese Keshi. Not for the faint of heart. Or faint of neck muscles. Clasp and beads are 22k and 18k, respectively.
I am not sure whether to post these pics here or more appropriately in the "My first attempt" thread. I had the pearl addiction real badly a couple of years ago, but then left my belongings behind in...
I like vermeil, but have huge problems with beads and sometimes clasps oxidizing. I still prefer solid gold.
Thanks. I used the flame so far on Powerpro as my glue hardened, but it is a bit dangerous. I think I will move to glue and crimp beads now that I am mostly done with high carat gold.
My first pearls were a strand of (as I realize now) bad quality 6-7mm Chinese freshwater pearls, which were claimed to be high quality akoyas. I bought them on Ebay. My second Ebay buy were pearls...
Thanks for the tutorial. I finally finished some of my necklaces. I just wondered what is best to finish off at the end when you do not have pearls, but gemstones, which do not allow to double pass...
This is stunning. Beautiful colors.
That is a beautiful pendant.
Ah, Caitlin. That is one big pearl.
Thanks Caitlin. Looking forward to the pics. And the stories. Enjoy.
Thanks for the advice Caitlin and Pearl Dreams. And this is a very nice necklace. I love tourmaline. I need to buy some. I was in a black spinel and labradorite phase 2 years ago. Then everything...
I did not knot it. But the spinel beads are small and pack tightly. Maybe I just finish it and see what happens.
I have just made a 45 inch spinel/pearl rope using doubled Power Pro (10lbs). But the necklace is quite stiff and does not fall nicely. Will Power Pro get more like silk with wearing? I am now...
So, is it possible for heavy metals to accumulate in pearl nacre? It would appear that might otherwise be a problem given the increasing pollution.
