She's been banned from that "other" forum.

I'm here in NY!
The Met has a fabulous collection of ancient jewelry. Although, I am a frequent visitor, I don't specifically remember the piece you've posted on facebook. I'll look for it the...
Although The Strand is known as a used book seller, they do sell new books, too. My copy of Bari's book was definitely never used. (Pretty good price, too!) Let me know what you think when you get...
Last month I bought Bari's latest pearl book at a bookstore in NYC, "The Strand". At the time they had three copies for sale. Although I don't know how they got it before the expected release date...
I am confused . On page 34 of the 5th and latest edition of Renee Newman's "Pearl Buying Guide", Fig.3.47 is a picture of a: "Nautilus pompilius blister pearl. Photo and pearl from Stephen...
Blaire, I enjoyed reading your article.

If that is the one, according to Amazon, it's due to be released September 14, 2010.

I frequently use 22k spacers in between pearls. They've never scratched or marked any of my pearls. Unfortunately, they are so expensive now.
In my experience, lower karat gold such as 14k or 10k,...
If you are referring to the "very putrid liquid", it's not weird at all. Those of us who drill pearls know that it is quite common, be they South Sea keshi and baroque or freshwater fireballs, etc. A...
I have a question. Using the above example of the 20mm pearl that is 99% nacre; if the pearl is accidently dropped, can the "shock" (for lack of a better word) of hitting a hard floor, cause a line...
I received this email today from Jack Lynch regarding this type of freshwater pearl cultivation.
"These are a new type of Chinese freshwater pearl on the market and I thought it might be of...
Why? There is no bead in them and they certainly are not rotting...... and as for that brown liquid we joke about, it is frequently in the most expensive South Sea baroques, too.

Jack told me he wants to call these "Souffle" pearls.

So, all you lucky "mucky" ducks :D going to Tucson...... make sure you stop by Jack's booth on your pearl walk to see these pearls in person and please take lots of pictures to post for the rest of...
I updated my post #4 with an explanation.

I just spoke to Jack. Unfortunately, he's not able to write up anything now because he's so busy getting ready for the Tucson show but he did fill me in via the phone. He said,"The mollusks are...
A few days ago, I received this email from Jack Lynch (Sea Hunt). I spoke with him and he's going to send me more information which I'll post. Those of you going to Tucson can see these in person.

"His Place"............ I think it's his apartment :p at least that was where he used to sell from. He also represents European goldsmiths in the US; ask him to show you some of their jewelry.

[QUOTE=earlyindigo;64095][I]Hi and thank you all for your suggestions! I got a copy from
http://www.charonkransenarts.com/.
I do not know if he has multiple copies, but he seems to be the...
Although the jewelry under the "Collections" catagory is nice, many of the pearls do not appear to me to be natural. To me, they look to be cultured freshwater pearls.

I do not have an answer to your question. I can only tell you that I have studied with master goldsmiths of classical/ancient jewelry and the formula that I printed above was the one they shared with...
Somewhere in the anals of TPP, a poster wonders too, if someone is posting as ZE, but Jeremy specifically puts any notion of a ZE impersonator to rest. I can't find his post but he is quite clear...
! No.... don't alloy with sterling. I had feeling you might think of sterling so I capitalized "FINE" in my prior post. If you want electrum, use only fine silver to alloy with the gold.
...
The few times I've worked with electrum, I've alloyed it myself. Start with a piece of 24k gold and weigh it. Then add 40% of FINE silver to whatever the 24k gold weight is.
ex: Melt (10 dwts of...
