Have you checked out this guy and his blog? Do it. LINK You will laugh and wince at the same time. I think this pearl prof can be an industry sensation.

He certainly has a red pencil! He comments on the latest pearl news. He corrects pearl facts and fancies from other pearl professionals. He offers blunt opinions, rather like my dad the English University Professor did. And a huge proportion of other professors too.

He is like my dad, in that he is impatient about errors of any kind. And he "talks" like my dad and his professor cronies do with that blustering confidence. Witty, a bit acerbic and always right. (That is such an annoying trait!) My dad never claimed anything unless he had references for it. My dad was always right. You could trust his word.

Anyway, the prof is on top of the pearl news. Yesterday he posted on the latest from the Tahitian developments. Earlier he commented on an article run in a Canadian publication, in which the Pearl Goddess herself made factual errors or boo-boos as the prof calls them. He really has a thing about factual inaccuracies about pearls. Even from such a highly regarded industry purveyer as Betty Sue King....

Further back in the blog, I learned how Ballerina Pearls led the parade of chocolate Tahitians- Maybe he'll come here and red pencil me but I believe he said chocolates are bleached not dyed!

Check out his blog for blunt opinions on the trade and give your critiques here. I don't think I saw a way to ask him questions on the blog, but we can do it here.

So, dig out the tough questions and ask them. Let's see how he does. Try to catch him in a factual error

My favorite is the technique for distinguishing freshwater and akoya pearls.

I think the article was just written by a journalist who knew nothing about pearls. It seems the study is about Chinese freshwater vs Japanese freshwater. I'm not 100% sure but that's what I understand from the previous publications of the German team.

Oh my goodness! I clicked on the Kiki de Montparnasse link in one of his posts!

Alternative pearl uses indeed! Hmm... I think that's a niche market just waiting to explode! No pun intended

Yeah, that would definitely need a mature tag! *blush* But I bet we could really under price them & still make a profit

Speaking of Pearl-Professor, he hasn't tackled pearldiver's rant yet, is he brave enough????

Reminds me of a college prof I had--we used to say "Right or wrong, he's never in doubt!" He spoke with such authority, he was very seldom challenged! And he was mostly right!!

Hey, look what I found.

http://mastoloni.blogspot.com/

Is this for real? Is the old cheese himself behind it? Odd, because it would seem that this blog is simply exposing the fact that Mastoloni has nothing interesting to say. I don't know. He must be very bored. But unfortunately his attempt at a proper blog is, in turn, boring me. Or maybe it is just that proper blogs bore me.

I love the Pearl-Professor(I mean that literally, whoever he is). Now there's a blog! His articles get me all hot and bothered. I wish I knew who he really was. Not many guys I know are into Kinky de Montparnasse, cheap Walmart underwear, Schoeffel designer pearl stilettos and books on how to survive prison. Yes, okay, I admit it, got a "thing" for the Professor.

Interesting. It looks like Mastoloni is trying his hand at the cyber game. You notice that the blog “contact us” link goes directly to Edward Mastoloni himself.

As far as I know the Mastoloni’s do not know and do not care about the cyber world let alone actually start this thread.
I am beginning to think that someone at Mastoloni seems to care about the cyber world a great deal. I put together a little timeline.

April 24th
Mastoloni joins iContactCommunity. I pointed this out before on an earlier thread. The user name at that time was “Edward Mastoloni”. It seems to have been recently changed to “Pearl Info”. I wonder why

It is still here, though: http://www.webwire.com/ViewPressRel.asp?aId=72979
That was the original info on the iContact page.

July 1st
Edward Mastoloni joins Pearl-Guide.com, still visits nearly every day, but has never posted.

July 29th
The Mastoloni blog appears. The email contact links goes directly to Edward Mastoloni’s personal email address.

August 5th
The infamous thread on the CPAA forum is started by an anonymous poster with the moniker PearlDiver52865, and as Peter Bazar has confirmed, the IP address was the same as Mr. Mastoloni’s IP address here on this forum.

August 21st
Myself and many members of this forum received a news release sent from Mastoloni pearls. The footer read:
Quote:
This message was sent from The Mastoloni Family to xxxxx@pearlparadise.com. It was sent from: Edward Mastoloni, 415 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10017. You can modify/update your subscription via the link below.
It seems to me that someone at Mastoloni does indeed care very much about the cyber world. It would also seem that only one person at Mastoloni is really reaching into the cyber world and that person is Edward Mastoloni himself. Of course this does not prove Edward himself was PearlDiver52865 on the CPAA forum. Some might even say that is just “coincidental at best”.

That's all very, very interesting. But one fact still stands out from all the rest---his blog is just plain BORING. Yawn. Nothing like boring links and worn out industry jargon to swiftly kill a blog. Why even start such a blog?? It's not like we will learn anything real about pearls from it.

Maybe the intention is to spread misinformation
http://mastoloni.blogspot.com/2008_07_29_archive.html

Quote:
They also discovered that they could grind cheap reject pearls into round nuclei and put them back into the mussels to grow into bigger, more round premium sizes.
That was written on July 29th, about 5 years after that rumor was killed.

It does have some decent information. In the August 30th post I found this little gem.

Quote:
Compare quality, price, and service. Prices for similar items can vary greatly from one store to the next, and with Internet sales on the rise, checking online stores is always wise. ...
Many online stores offer high-quality jewelry at 30 to 60 percent off retail price.

I hope I didn't just get a writer fired!

Oh my, I'll have to eat some of my words. The blog just got a little less boring, but a lot more stupid. Yikes. He needs a proof reader along with a writer.
