The highlight of the 'Magnificent' December auction is what you see below. And the upcoming catalog will be placing the object under the loupe, literally.

not usually a fan of naturals unless they are abalone - but its hard not to love that "hammered metal" look of those.

It's the late Duchess of Windsor's natural pearl strand discussed in more detail here below in another thread. Simply gorgeous as far as naturals go. A big enough pearl necklace to be in your face but understated enough to be elegant as well. It needs a new owner bad---maybe mega pearl-mogul Jeremy Shepherd? At least then maybe Caitlin and I could go down to PP and fawn(drool) over it sometime.

Calvin Klien to sell Duchess of Windsor's natural pearl necklace

Ya! Forgot about it... perhaps I should have added to it. Only the detailed images are 'news'.

There are several other large natural pearls in the auction. Quite something.

Maybe this one terribly snob thing to say, but I really am convinced that these otherwise remote marvels is a good way to appreciate all pearls from the crummy to the extraordinary for what they are. Besides, the process seems fun for me, and this is why I'm flooding the forum with the bits of search results
