Well, it wasn't even close - the conch pearl earrings (lot 44) went for $37K...and the natural pearl earrings (lot 432) sold for $169K!!!

Update: at least the drop didn't go over the high estimate - it went for 280k, not including buyer's premium.

It still makes those earrings look like a 'bargain', LOL!

I have been reading your posts and I do want to check out the NYTimes again because the last time I could not get any info except for the first paragraph. Would like to know about the Catherine the Great Pearls purchased by Horace E. Dodge for his wife Anna, in about 1919 for close to a million bucks. Does anyone know of these ?
