I usually buy fw pearls from a local supplier but I decided to import them myself because this will help me save much money by buying direct. I currently live in Indonesia. If u know any reliable/honest supplier /pearl farm in China or HK, please let me know. My email : jkthappy@yahoo.com

Thanks!!

Yes, I have brought from Topearl in Guangzhou from China. Don't let their website fooIs you. The quality is really bad. There are holes in some pearls in the necklace. The dyed color is horrible. Workmanship looks like dollar store products.......... etc. The size does not match what they listed......... Some are too small and may be only fit very skinny orientals. May be they are looking for one deal customers. The communication with the sales is very professional, they are very experience shipping overseas, but, most important of all, the quailty is horrible. With the prices they asked, you can get much better deals from other suppliers. May be buying solely from the website is risky.

In where I stay, I pay about $2 -$4 per string depending on the quality & colors of pearls (my supplier buy from HK). Biwa is over priced in Indonesia but I managed to buy reasonable priced good quality biwa in Malaysia, about $15/string. I thought if I can find an honest supplier in HK or China, then I can buy more because their price is cheaper.

Thanks for thr info pearlgifts.

Hello Pearlavenue
I would rather be cautious finding a reliable supplier via the Internet in China. Most of these companies you will find are trading companies. Also in most cases the qualities of pearls you will get through these sources are poor. It is actually very rare to find any direct suppliers or pearl farms advertising online. I think if you want to buy a bigger quantity the best option you might have is to actually go to one of the freshwater pearl farming areas in China. Of course if you go to China, and want to negotiate a decent price, speaking the language or hiring a translator would be beneficial as well. If you are only buying smaller quantities you might be better of staying with the local supplier you have or contact one of the suppliers being present in this forum.

Anyway thanks for Pearlgifts' information. Topearl.com do direct wholesale business only for two years, we are pursuing the best service for our customers. As a businessman, I don't want to lose any customer & I look forward to building long-term business relationship with our customers, I try to provide the best services & products to all customers in the future.
1. In fact in order to let our customers evaluate the quality of our products, we accept the small trial orders. The cooperation involves both sides: the customers are looking for us,sometimes we are choosing the customers. I hope all potential customers become our sincere customers, but it is impossible to any dealers.
2. More better quality the pearls are, more expensive the pearls are. I am confident that the pearls in China are more cheaper than USA,but the prices of pearls are relative to the quality.
3. It is our advantage to provide the professional communication. It is not bad things.
4. We are direct supplier of Chinese cultured pearls. We have our own pearl farms, but not all pearls are come from own pearl farms.
Yes,If you buy large quantity, directly go to pearl farms in China. And the prices are sure to more lower. The big pearl distributors in USA do that.
Welcome to China! I am very happy to meet any customers.

In the future, I will often go to this forum & communicate with other members.

Hi All
So far this forum has not been a meeting place for pearl traders in China and customer/members here. This is new territory and it is definitely "trade at your own risk" territory. If you thought eBay was tricky to get a good deal- I think dealing through the net with China is real Wild West stuff. Not for beginners in business or beginners in pearls.

I would be very wary of any company that did not have a recommendation from someone who knows pearls, and someone I trust, like Jeremy , someone who has been to China, speaks the language and has a clue of what is going on and what people mean.

Nevertheless, if you like to take risks and someone sounds like they have a good deal, don't spend more than you can afford to lose. Sometimes I have gotten a good first deal, but reorders were disappointing. There are a lot of factors to consider when dealing with highly competitive people and a language chasm. Shipping is important. Get the shipping rates before ordering. They should not be higher than the standard rates, $12 a lb or something like that. Be sure to check this. Over on eBay there is often a scam to sell pearls for .99 a strand and charge $99 for postage. The Chinese pearl sellers on eBay are extremely dishonest and do not give you your money's worth. In fact, I have yet to see an honest dealer from over there on eBay-

I hope people will share any experiences they have with any pearl trading company that uses this forum to engage with buyers. We need some data. If things do not go well, the forum owner will not like it.

I believe seeing and touching the real products are very important. Trust yourself and your own judgement, not others' words. I also believe that there are many honest and decent pearl merchants in China and in every country. We just have to look for them.

Almost every, not all, merchants in China claim that they have their own farms.

You are right. There definitely are honest dealers in China. And yes, they all (without exception) claim to have their own farms. Even those who are clearly factory traders like ToPearl. You really have to rely on your instinct and referrals, like the nice feedback the same seller received at the top of this thread.

Hold onto that thought and if you find any, please report it here. I do think members on this forum could find and report on good buying experiences.

Right now, it seems like people who are traders practically always claim they are farmers. As others on this forum have pointed out, this is not an honest foundation for a long term business relationship.

I have some thoughts about this, but I get back to them, later.

Jeremy is very correct in one comment from other thead in this forum. If you have to go overseas in person to shop for pearls and know where to go. Do not make any contact because you pay high price for those contacts.

I did not listen to him and I learned my lesson.
