The previous owner purchased them 07/26/1983 in Hong Kong for $14,400.00. They were recently appraised at $1750.00 (Australian dollars). The problem is that, after arrival, it became known that the clasp had been replaced because the original had broken. The new clasp has a small pearl, but no hallmark -- unusual style. On this forum I have read: "remember you're only buying the clasp. Without that, even Miki won't certify the strand. They can't tell their pearls from anyone else's." So, I am in great need of obtaining your thoughts, in that I have a very limited time to return them. I purchased them for $775 (Australian dollars). The pearls are beautiful but I really wanted a Mikimoto strand/clasp. I was hoping someone can authenticate a necklace I bought (upon my wife's insistence) that is supposedly vintage Mikimoto. I paid $325 for it at an estate sale and was told that the box and certificate was missing. I have posted pics. It looks like the clamshell logo is not present, although I've read that after World War 2 (1950s) Mikimoto did not include the logo for a period of time. The string is knotted between each pearl, and the size of the pearls are about 7.5mm. Thanks and looking forward to everyone's input.

I bought it from a reputable jeweler, but not one that specializes in pearls. It's 8 or 9mm with a 14k white gold band. Looks perfectly round to my eye.

An appraisal would be interesting too.

My mom gave me these pearls. The picture is off of the internet though, but it's the exact same one. I want to know what kind of pearls they are, cause she said that they were real. They kinda have a flat back. They are very pretty.

Also, I would like to restring them because the clasp broke. Does anyone know what kind of string would be best? Thank You guys in Advance :o
