Here is an intersting page about how a labratory identifies certain
pearls by their pigments spectrographically. Example is of the pinctada margaritifera and the pteria penguin.

That's a curious link.

I doubt though if the technology would be pursued commercially due to the mystiquery. But I guess ideally though, it should somehow be applied to exotic pearls due to the amount of money involved when buying exotic pearls. However, there's just too few of the exotic pearls that are being tested commercially to make an investment in the equipment I think, but somehow, maybe GIA or AGTA should at least have it for studying if not for commercial purposes.

I believe that AGTA did this kind of testing on my pearl, but I'd have to double check my certificate.
