| Hi Caitlin,
here in Brazil, we have the same problems. Our freshwater mussels are threatened, by pollution, competion with exotic species, dams construction, erosion or ovr harvesting. The difference is that few actions are taken here. Our native species are clearly desapearing. Only to know, in 2002 we could find 600 individuals/m2 in some rivers, in this year (2006) none was found. Instead we found some like 15.000 individuals/m2 of Corbicula (asian freshwater mussel). It is not a good scenario.
