Really and truly, the best way to drill pearls without a drill is to become friends with someone who has a pearl drill!!! Most likely, if you've purchased an undrilled pearl, it's one you've spent some $ on and you'll cry if you mess it up. I'm speaking from experience.
When I first started out, I took my pearls to a local jeweler who drilled them for me for $5 each. A grand profit for her, but the reduced frustration level was totally worth it for me. Now I have become great friends with another local designer who owns a drill. We share all sorts of knowledge, advice, etc... and drilling!
I remember somewhere on this forum, someone saying that it's possible to buy used drills from some of the larger companies. It's something I haven't had time to follow up on, but might be a way for you to get an affordable drill. |
